Jemez weekend is upon us and here comes the Hoka’s, Melter and Mermoud will be sporting the latest in trail shoe design ! I had the chance to bounce around in the Hoka’s for a moment and I must say “wow”! The new trail shoe design reminds me of the ski industry when fat skis hit the scene, (hero skis) now we have hero trail shoes?

Here’s a sweet ride with a ton of cushion and large toe box the Wildcat has become one of my favorite La Sportiva Trail Shoes. I ran my last two 100 milers in the Wildcats, the Wasatch 100 and Oil Creek 100. The shoe it self does weighs a little more then the Fireblades and is a little bulkier but has a killer traction( FriXion® X-Axis rubber outsole ) system that gives you a lot of confidence to bomb the technical muddy downhills. The wildcat is a higher profile shoe but surprisingly I never role my ankle in the toughest terrain, no blisters with the Wildcats…by La Sportiva

Trail shoe review La Sportiva Crosslite

When I think of all the trail shoes I ‘ve used over the years there are two models that really made an impact on trail running. Remember the Nike Terra Torre? Killer trail shoe from the early 90′s and of coarse the One Sport which became the Montrail Vitesse.

Well now there’s the La Sportiva Crosslite, this shoe is by far the best trail shoe I have ever run in, keep in mind this shoe works well in the rugged Wasatch Mountain Range. The Crosslite has a beefy sole with lugs that provide super traction and support to bomb down the nastiest scree field you can find. The shoe fits so well your foot doesn’t slide around and give you toe bang like the floaty boaty Montrail Vitesse. The upper portion of the shoe has a real light breathable material that allows water to drain quickly after crossing those creeks. Looking forward to trying the Crosslites at the Pocatello 50, Bighorn 100, Wasatch 100, Oil City 100.
