Nannie Amy Sproston competed in the Promise Land 50k to post a second place with a speedy time of 6:10. Monica Ochs scraped her way to a 1st place finish at the Capital Peak 50 miler in 8:46, way to go!!!! Tim Long had his leg speed turning again this weekend for a 1st place finish at the Crowders Mountain 50k! Hats off to the team, you guys rocked!!

Sharpest Hooves of the Day!

Monica Ochs 1st Capital Peak 50 miler!

Tim Long 1st Crowders Mountain 50k!

It seems the old Zane Grey handed out another rocky day to some of the runners, I need to get the skinny. Was it blistering hot?

Way too Cool 50k

Posted in Race Updates, Speedgoat Updates on March 7th, 2008

Way to Cool is shaping up to be a real competitive race, there are so many fast people running I have no ideal who will win. Check out Karl Meltzers odds, he picked Matt Carpenter and Suzanna Beck for the win! This will be a great test for the young Skaggs and experienced Scott Jurek going up against the mighty Matt Carpenter. Stay tuned should be a killer race!

Speedgoat 50k is on!

Posted in Race Updates, Speedgoat Updates on March 4th, 2008

For you climbing junkies the toughest 50k is open! Last year there was so much vertical the course ended up short but no one complained. This year we are exploring some new terrain around the resort that should make the race even more difficult. Winter has shown us some record snow fall this year so expect to cross a glacier or two!

Copper Canyon Trail Run in Mexico

Posted in Race Updates, Speedgoat Updates on February 28th, 2008

Running with the Tarahumara Indians, who else offers that experience. I meet race director Micah True last year at Leadville 100 and he had some great stories about the canyon. This year’s race should be real exciting with Antone Krupika and kyle Skaggs showing up, will they run in shoes or sandals? Those two should run in sandals, it’s not like it would slow them down, probably just a couple new blisters!

Copper Canyon Race is on March 2, 2008 so if you are bored suit up and head to Mexico and make sure you tell Micah Wasatch Speed Goat says hi!

Tony Kuprika, Kyle Skaggs tie for win @ Red Hot 50k

Posted in Race Updates, Speedgoat Updates on February 18th, 2008

The two young goats tore up slick rock Saturday with a rippin time of 4:03 and Susanna Beck won for the women in 4:28. Sounds like Tony jumped in the race last week to win side by side with friend and speedster Kyle Skaggs. I watched these two scream by me at Hopes Pass last summer (other direction) during the Leadville 100, sounds like they had the sharpest hooves of the day! Congrats to Kyle and Tony for a great run and hats off to Susan who posted a incredible time of 4:28!! Sounds like a lot of people got chicked SATURDAY! Way to run Susanna !

Meltzer and Skaggs showdown at Moab Red Hot 50K

Posted in Race Updates on February 15th, 2008

Saturday, February 16 two of the best of the best in the business face off at the Red Hot 50k in Moab. karl and I ran this race last year and what a great early season race! The first 17 miles is real runnable and the last 17 cross a giant rock that can be real tricky to find the trail. The speed goat that wins this race will be the one who spends no time looking for the course.

This is a classic match up with young goat and the master goat himself clicking across the slick rock, who will have the sharpest hooves of the day? We will find out Saturday when Meltzer calls me after the race. I am stuck at my house with over 30 feet of snow and a separated shoulder from a snowmobile crash, bummer to miss the race!

H.U.R.T. Race 2008

Posted in Race Updates, Speedgoat Updates on January 22nd, 2008
The race is pau! That’s Hawaiian for finished. It was a great race with a lot of Aloha. We were fortunate to have the Hawaiian blessing of rain (and wind) at certain times throughout the race. This pleased some H.U.R.T. people because according to those who marked the trail on Friday, the course was just way too dry. As we say, “We wouldn’t want this to be easy!”In all seriousness, we appreciate the participants for all their efforts, the volunteers, and all of the support we received in order to make this race a great success! There will be some truly great stories that will be told from the race.

Sunmart race results

Posted in Race Updates on December 12th, 2007

Foreigners dominate Sunmart Race

Jaroslaw Janicki of Poland flew over the big pond to lead a large contingent of runners from another land. 6:07 and change was nowhere near Greg Crowthers superb time last year of 5:37. However, a deep foreign field put the first american (Akos Konya) back to 5th place,
next US runner was Mark Godale (9th). Konya’s bid for runner of the year gets another point in the standings.

Helena Crossan of Ireland won a hot womens race only 4 minutes ahead of Great Britain runner Adela Salt. Crossan ran 7:18. Third women was Jean Perez from the US in 7:29. Great race for the women.
Wouldn’t it be cool if someone from Europe would invite a bunch of us to run Mt. Blanc, and take care of travel?

Hardrock and Wasatch 100 applications

Posted in Race Updates on December 10th, 2007

Here we go, it’s time to get out the check book and start mailing out race applications for your favorite race! As we just read Western States is the World championships for the lottery winners, not the sport! The Hardrock 100 has a new category for people like me who never get in, if you applied in previous years and were unsuccessful, you get some extra chances in the hat! Way to go Hardrock!

Wasatch 100 also has an extra ticket for those did not get in last year! It is good to see some adjustments on the lottery for those big races! I will be attending the lottery for the Wasatch 100 on February 2nd, if you would like a live update on your status leave a comment and I will be calling everyone during the lottery to tell you the good news!

Stay tuned for TRAIL GEAR REVIEW on the La Sportiva Fireblade, these shoes look sleek and fast compared to what I am used to running in!

Squaw Peak 50

Posted in Race Updates on December 3rd, 2007

Registration is open for the 2008 Squaw Peak 50 Miler ! This is one of the toughest 50 milers in the country next to Zane Grey and Lake City’s 50 miler. This will be my seventh run at the Squaw Peak and it never gets any easier. The course has about 20,000 combined vertical and has a super technical downhill from mile 40 at Windy pass down to mile 46.5 to the pavement. You can really loose a lot of time on this section of the course if you are not able to run the steep downhill, so save some legs for this section. If you want some beautiful views and like to cross avalanche snow fields this race is for you!
