Jemez weekend is upon us and here comes the Hoka’s, Melter and Mermoud will be sporting the latest in trail shoe design ! I had the chance to bounce around in the Hoka’s for a moment and I must say “wow”! The new trail shoe design reminds me of the ski industry when fat skis hit the scene, (hero skis) now we have hero trail shoes?
By using an EVA 30% softer and increasing its total volume to 2.5 times that of a typical trail running shoe, we allow for more cushioning than any other shoe on the market today, dissipating up to 80% of the shock associated with heal striking when running..Read more>>>

Jemez 50 miler, time to get serious as Zane Grey was a “off the couch 50 miler” training run. The Jemez 50 is chalk full of savvy veteran trail runners along with Assistant Director for the Wasatch Speed Goat’s Tim Barnes, look for Meltzer trekking with a hunk of cast on his right arm, will it slow him down?
Jemez looks like my type of course with a ton of vertical crossing three 10,000 foot peaks, great training run for the upcoming Bighorn 100 and Ultra -Trail du Mont Blanc.
Scrape on!
Here we are hanging in Flagstaff waiting to run the mighty Zane Grey, after a night on the town with Meltzer and Torrence, it’s time to shake off the Jaguar bomb hangover and get ready to run….Looks like there may be a little snow on the course up high, maybe a little mud to keep it interesting? Either way this trail is going to be rutty, rocky, overgrown and full of toe stubbing booby traps. looks like a good day for my La Sportiva Wildcats, stay tuned for more trail running stories from Zane Grey.

For a trail runner who’s used to lining up at 100′s with just a Nathan Elite 2V Plus Pack, it’s going to be a blast carrying all those required items on my trek through the 2010 Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc. I am not a big fan of a bag of water on my back which covers a large part of my thermostat, oh well. As I prepare to run the ultimate trail running event, I look forward to enjoying the experience with team mates Jodi Chase and Cory Johnson. Look for the Wasatch Speed Goats to represent the United States with some strong results..scrape on!

I guess running 5 to 6 100′s a year just isn’t enough for Karl, here he is staging an attempt to run the entire Pony Express Trail from Missouri to California (1840 miles). The trail is celebrating it’s 150th anniversary so Karl teamed up wit Red Bull for the attempt, stay tuned for more details. Looks like after Tour Du Mont Blanc I’ll be putting together a couple long runs on the Pony Express!

We’ve been online for a long, long time. We started the idea of Mountains Plus way back in 1995 back when Yahoo was ‘old school’ grey with blue links and Amazon was this ‘new’ site where you could buy books from some dude named Jeff who was shipping them out of his garage and making $20,000/week. We were one of Camelbak’s first dealers (back when they were FastTrak systems out of TX) and we’ve seen many brands come and go in the nearly 15 years we’ve braved the wild and wooly world of outdoor e-commerce.

It’s time to cross the pond and run the ultimate trail race, Ultra-Trail Du Mount-Blanc. I’ve heard the stories from Meltzer and team mate Mike Mason describing the event, it sounds like my type of course with gnarly endless vertical. 2010 could shape up to be a fun year in Chamonix if the Wasatch Speedgoats can get in the race along with the mystery man?
