H.U.R.T. Race 2008
The race is pau! That’s Hawaiian for finished. It was a great race with a lot of Aloha. We were fortunate to have the Hawaiian blessing of rain (and wind) at certain times throughout the race. This pleased some H.U.R.T. people because according to those who marked the trail on Friday, the course was just way too dry. As we say, “We wouldn’t want this to be easy!”In all seriousness, we appreciate the participants for all their efforts, the volunteers, and all of the support we received in order to make this race a great success! There will be some truly great stories that will be told from the race.

Straight up crazy race. I know, I know, you all are thinkin’, what a bunch of slow ninnies out there! Well, man, it just poured and poured and the race just became a trail with a river running down it with piles and piles of mud to add. I came into mile 60 right on the heels of eventual winner Paul, but just could not muster up the desire to be out in those conditions for another 11 hours or so. So, the 67 miles was all I had in the tank. I think my 17 hour 67 miler may be the slowest time ever recorded to win a 100 K race. But, take my word for it… it was nuts out there.
I give lots of cred to the people who stuck it out and literally crawled around the course for those last two laps. They had more stones than me on that day.
Just thought I’d give you all the inside scoop.
