Red Hot 50k
Here we go ready to start the trail season down in Moab, Ut. for the Red Hot 50k! On February 16, 2008 race director Chris Martinez is putting on a killer 50k or a 33k trail race in the cool red rocks of Moab. If you want a great early season race this is one to try, the big rock the last 17 miles gave me some toe bang last year as Karl Meltzer smoked the field followed by his wife Cheryl crossing the finish line in her socks? The best part of the race was the party later that evening in Moab!

I ran the Moab Alpine to Slickrock race - put on be the same race director - last Fall. Great race: great course, low key but well organized. The race crew waited, in the dark and rain, for me to come across the finish line and to hand me a beer and my winnings from the post race raffle; 20 minutes after the official cut off. It was my first attempt at 50 miles, so I really appreciated them letting my finish, instead of just pulling my ffrom the course so they could get out of the rain and go home.

Sounds like one for next year. I am looking forward to using the Speedgoat 50K as a bar to judge all other races against.

I just got in the 50k when they opened it up for additional runners. This will be only my second ultra and I’ll be honored to be on the course with runners like Karl, Darcy, Ian, and Anita. It looks like this race is destined to become one of THE hot 50k’s in the country. See ya’ll in Moab.
