WasatchSpeedGoat 50k- Carbon Footprint

Hello fellow SpeedGoats,

Thanks everyone for signing up for the first ever WasatchSpeedGoat “Get High” 50k!

This has been a daunting task getting such a killer race put together at the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon, we would like to request all runners please car pool and utilize the “park and ride ” at the bottom of Little Cottonwood Canyon. Snowbird has been very accommodating to partner with us to showcase the best 50k trail run venue ever! We really want to be the best environmentally conscious people we are, as you run through the course please do the best you can not to leave any waste behind! There will be restrooms at the start/finish and at the top of the tram where you cross twice, Thanks for the help!

At what miles will we be passing by the top of the tram? What miles are the aid stations at?

    Thanks - Jeff

Karl and Scott, Just had to send you this Thank You note for the great race today! As an over-50 endorphin-junky geologist I am always looking for any opportunity to be outside. Your race provided the perfect setting! I contacted a viral infection almost a year ago that landed me in the hospital with a severe case of verdigo. My fitness level is not back where it should be, but I knew your race would push me harder than I probably would on my own. Karl - your hug on the Mineral Basin road when I mentioned I was done meant alot to me and it reveals what a very fine person you are to hug a stinky stranger! Also, wanted to let you know the spotters from Black Diamond were top notch and thanked me when I told them a bit about the Tintic Quarzite coming down Baldy ridge. The rope set up was great fun! Another reason I wear my bike gloves - just slid on down! The purple lupine and light-red split-leaf painted cup that carpeted Mineral Basin were just outstanding and the bumblebees were gorging themselves (I love bumblebees!). I did drop at aid #2 and the aid people were fantastic. I had enough energy and wanted to hike down, then ended up following the Ridge trail Montrail flags (like Pavlov’s dog) and ended up going back up to the tram - by then probably getting in the 19 miles I wanted. I was now really done and grabbed a ride down. In addition to the helpful engaging aid stn people, you had people strategically placed to make sure we made the right turn - thank you so much! Had a very minor detour after coming out of the tunnel the first time and instead of heading through the 2 trees that were flagged (like a gate no-less - I should have known better) a couple of us headed up the short section of the road instead of the trail - no biggie at all. Just so happy to be out there running with fine people and beholden to you and Scott who sacrificed your time to let us have a fun day. And Scott - don’t ever lose that social grace and levity you possess - that is such a wonderful trait! Thanks again - it was just a perfect day! Heidi

Thank to all those responsible for such a great race! I had an awesome time! I think it may have been a little short, but at the same time, it took my longer than expected so I’m not complaining. Karl, I have decided that you are a god and I am a mere mortal. Kudos to you! I now understand the term speedgoat.

Sorry I couldn’t hang around for the award cerimony. I’m guessing you will be posting the results soon enough. Thanks again.
