Hardrock 100
The grand daddy of all 100’s is coming up next month with the ultimate match up! Karl Meltzer has won 3 – 100 milers already this season with only a couple weeks to rest for the mighty Hardrock ! Rumor has it his competition is in Silverton a month early? Hang on for the battle in the San Juan’s, leave your thoughts on the high altitude scramble~

These guys meet next at the Ultra-Trail Tour du Mont-Blanc
Here’s a comment: Meltzer wins Hardrock by an hour at least. I saw first hand at Wasatch in 2006 the kind of dismemberment he is capable of delivering. Not even a month in Silverton will bring him down.
I’m happy to see you will be there to defend, Karl….for Scott to win this tough race, he must take it from you. I saw Scott at SJS50 out running in the hills there, so he is preparing….he has been training with Kyle Skaggs in Silverton.
This is your course, your record….show him how to run it!
See you there! We’re heading up Friday, can’t wait!
Steve
The Hard Scramble is a long day and the goat should prevail!
WSG
You got it Goat, just stick to the game plan and do what you’ve always done. Afterall you are the…
Greatest
Of
All
Time
on the Hardrock course, now go bury the hatchet.

It will be exiting to see how the Hardrock 100 goes, putting my dollars on you Karl. It will be even more exiting to compete with you and Scott at the UTMB in France in August (at least the first couple of hundred meters ), then you disappear…….

So I assume then Jurek isn’t first going below sea level to run Badwater…. That might put a whammy in his acclimation game plan.
Good luck, Karl. As usual, I’m rooting for you, even if you do wear lady’s shorts.

would have been interesting to see what would happen if Skaggs wasn’t on the waiting list, rather on the running list. He’s running hot right now.
Hardrock is kind of like Kyle Skaggs’ home turf. We must watch for him in the future,no doubt. It looks like Jurek has quite a team helping him in Silverton. I just have the goats waiting on the ridge for me. Baaaahhhh
Go get em Karl! You’re the man on the course. I have a huge admiration for anyone who can complete that course, let alone smoke the course like you. I paced at WS last weekend and that was even a bit tough. Good luck!
NEEDLESS TO SAY, BUT I’LL SAY IT ANYWAY, SCOTT JUREK WON 7 TIMES CONSECUTIVELY @ STATES. HANDS DOWN THE BEST IN THE BUSINESS AT PREPARATION FOR A RACE OF THIS MAGNITUDE. I’LL PUT MY MONEY ON THE UNDERDOG FROM THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST. I DON’T KNOW IF IT’S BEEN NOTED, BUT WHEN IT COMES TO BIG RACES, SCOTT REALLY DOESN’T HAVE A HISTORY OF LOSING.
Baah!!
Hardrock is goat country, case closed.
I’ll be running the operation at Putnam Basin this year, and we will have some tasty broth at the ready for a quick pass through by the goat king, no matter what the hour.
In the spirit of fairness, I’m also seeking out a qualified manicurist for some of the other frontrunners, who shall remain nameless.
Bah!
See you in Silverton….
Jurek has lost big races on courses where the competition has more experience. Here is one example:

Predection…. Jurek not in top 5
TREVOR,
Not taking anything away from Jurek because there is no doubt he is an incredible runner but this course does not favor his strengths. Case in point: he DNF’d his last time at Hardrock ….hmmm something to think about???
When WSG has his game on it doesn’t matter who it is…. Game, Set, Match Meltzer! Thanks for playing!
Good stuff, keep it coming!
IT’S GOOD TO SEE SUCH STRONG SUPPORT FOR KARL… I’M SURE IT’S INSPIRATIONAL TO HAVE SO MANY LOCAL/ NON-LOCAL FOLKS ALIKE PULLING FOR THE SAME RUNNER. IT SOUNDS LIKE A BRUTAL COURSE AND ENCOMPASSES SO MANY DIFFERENT ULTRA-RUNNING ELEMENTS. AS A SPECTATOR, I’M REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO THE HEALTHY COMPETITION. AJW, THE LINK TO THE AC100 WHEN SCOTT LOST WAS FROM 1999, THOUGH.
Better put some Motorhead on to run that HARDROCK 100 baby! You’re gonna ROCK!

I admire you Karl and your mens outdoor apparel too!
