Mad City 100k, US Championships
CROWTHER WINS ANOTHER BIG ONE! A relatively unknown to most…until Sunmart, Greg Crowther wiped out a stellar field to win the US Championship 100K at Mad City in 7hrs 14min. Scott Jurek put together another solid performance running 7:32. Kevin Setnes rounded out the top 3 and smoked the older boys running 7:50. Julie Udchacon won the womens race and finished 4th overall in 8:09. The next three finishers were women making them the real winners of all! Crowther takes home $2000 making him the richest Ultrarunner on earth with the exception of Yannis Kouros, the WGUR. Looks like Crowther is in the running for Ultrarunner of the Year…Meltzer better get moving! Congrats to all! 3 scrapes! baaahhhhhh!

Wisconsin local and ultra legend Kevin Setnes solidified once again his incredible abilities. What a great time on a not so great day. And at the age of 54!!!!!!!!!!! sure and steady proved to win the race at MadCity, not necessarily the fastest. Greg is looking to be in very good form. We’ll see what happens at Miwok with other fine runners.
Finally warming up here in Wisconsin, the short cold stint actually wasn’t that bad, but what a difference from 80 degrees last week!

I just subscribed - and upon subscription, ordered 5 cases of PowerGel and some Ultragen. Thanks for the info; lots of reading.
I’ll be in Utah (condo overlooking the Jordanelle Reservoir) from Aug 7 to Aug 14. Looking for suggestions on good trail running. Also, can I do something to get me to the top of Kings Peak and back in 1 day on my own?
I’m not as talented as you guys; but I can run 50 miles of trails in 10 hours at 1000′ above sea level. Finished the Leadville Trail marathon 2x in a little over 6 hours. I’ve got some endurance w/training - but as a 3:30 marathoner these days - not the speed.

Kings Peak in a day is very doable for the Ultrarunner, You must start at Henry’s Fork on the North side of the range. It’s about a 3 hour drive from Jordanelle. The route is about 30 miles roundtrip to the 13,528′ summit. There are other great runs in the Uinta Range within 1 hour from Jordanelle. Get back if you want directions. The running near Jordanelle Reservoir is OK, and you are right near Deer Valley and Park City, where at least 300 miles of killer singletrack exists. You may not return home after running here. When August comes, we’ll hook you up. Kings Peak gets 3 scrapes, it’s an epic run! Baaahhhh, Wahsatchspeedgoat

Karl,
Sounds great! I look forward to scoping out the trails out of Park City and Deer Valley on the Eastern side of the Wasatch range. If you have any websites that’ll point me to maps or trail routes, let me know.
Thanks!

p.s. - Karl, good luck at McNaughton. I live in Illinois - which is generally flat. McNaughton is an exception; its a tough course by local standards.

Hi Dave,
I live just over the ridge from Jordanelle, I will see you when you are in town and run all the killer singletrack in Park City, UT.
