This is very true. I’ve been running with Charlie for years, including at the Moab Red Hot 50k. I’m probably one of the younger runners he was talking about. He passed me twice while I was at aid stations and I caught him afterwards, but this gets harder to do each time. He is relentless. Finally he lost me for good around 18 miles, and finished ~20 minutes ahead. He has pulled this tortoise and hare garbage on me at Wasatch too. I’m determined to trounce him at Zane Grey next month.

Huh! That’s the truth. I ran most of the second half of the Jemez 50 with that Charlie Vincent character and would pass him during every segment, get a bit of a lead, and then watch him trot by me at every aid station. It drove me mad, but reinforces the point made in the post. You can lose LOTS of time at aid stations for no good reason.

Baaah!!! If I am allowed, I hereby allocate one scrape for such solid advise!
