Winter Trail Running in Utah

Yea that can be a tough task at times considering we get 500 to 700 inches of snow a year on some of our favorite terrain. Thanks to 13 world-class ski resorts you can hit the groomer’s after the they close. I look forward to checking out of my sales job at the ski resort and stepping on to the groomer’s to bang out a quick 8 mile run with 2500 vertical climb.

On Wednesday Scott and I peeled out of the office, dressed in the parking lot, and took off to some packed single-track. Shortly thereafter, we left a dwindling trail and post-holed to the ridge. At the ridge, we post-holed down the other side, bushwhacking through the scrub oak, and literally dropped onto a paved road. Rarely have I been so content to run on the blacktop.

Such is winter training in the Wasatch. This is the stuff that builds character and makes moderately difficult conditions seem like magic carpet rides. And I’m not whining, I get what I come out for. I clean out out my lungs, soak in the views with a sunset, and laugh all the way down one of Deer Valley’s rolling groomed runs. When you’re a member of The Church of the Great Outdoors, this is much more than winter training , it’s how you go about your way.

Yes, this clearly describes winter training in the wasatch. Joanser(Wasatch 100 finisher) is the only person I know who deals with the elements of winter training with such a smile! Bahahah! Two Scrapes –
